Renovated kitchen with quartzite waterfall island, fluted walnut island base, white shaker cabinets, plaster hood and glass pendants in Croton on Hudson, NY | Interior design by Dominique Michelle Vidal

Croton-on-Hudson Residence

Set among the trees in Croton on Hudson, New York, this contemporary home was redesigned by interior designer Dominique Michelle Vidal into a warm, light filled family residence. Working with Chris Craftsman Development, Dominique guided a whole home renovation that touched nearly every room, including the kitchen, living room and library, primary suite, bathrooms, mudroom and lower level.

The kitchen is built around a long walnut island with a waterfall edge, paired with white shaker cabinetry, a full slab backsplash and a custom range hood. Crystal pendants, a crystal chandelier and slim Alno Moderne pulls add polish, while a fluted walnut beverage station creates a dedicated coffee and drinks zone.

Off the kitchen, a bold second work area pairs blue painted inset cabinetry with a floor to ceiling chevron tile wall in green, blue and copper, finished with brass hardware.

In the two story living room, a custom stepped limestone fireplace surround anchors the space beneath a glass railed balcony. Brass sconces flank the fireplace, and symmetrical built ins frame the room.

The library is a true showpiece. Floor to ceiling white bookcases rise into the vaulted ceiling, with a rolling ladder on a brass rail and walls of windows looking into the woods.

The primary suite features a custom walnut headboard wall with integrated nightstands and swing arm sconces. Behind it, walnut wardrobes run up to the loft floor above to conceal a structural beam, using the same veneer and grain direction. A walnut dresser island and built in bench complete the suite.

The primary bathroom is the home's most dramatic room. Book matched slabs wrap the shower behind a frameless glass enclosure with brass hardware, and a fluted freestanding tub sits beside a picture window framed in stone. A walnut vanity, brass mirror and matching linen tower tie it back to the bedroom millwork.

Throughout the home, new lighting, a geometric black and gold powder room, refreshed bathrooms, carpeting in the bedrooms and stairs, and custom window treatments bring a cohesive, transitional feel to every level.
