MODERN VICTORIAN

This modern Victorian interior renovation preserves the personality of an older home while giving the rooms a lighter, more comfortable point of view. Interior designer Dominique Michelle Vidal layered soft color, crisp millwork, vintage furniture, contemporary upholstery, collected art, and natural texture to create a home rooted in history without feeling like a period reproduction.

In the living room, pale blue walls, white wainscoting, full-height sheer drapery, and sculptural lighting create a calm setting for artwork and a mix of neutral furnishings. One of the most meaningful parts of the renovation was restoring the fireplace after fire damage. The before-and-after slider records its transformation from a damaged feature into a finished focal point.

The dining room continues the story with patterned wallpaper, brass accents, carved wood furniture, a blue area rug, and oversized ceramic planters. Traditional references remain present, yet the room feels personal, relaxed, and collected over time.

 

This project reflects Dominique Michelle Vidal Design’s approach to historic home interior design: preserve the character, repair what has been lost, and create rooms suited to modern life. The studio serves residential clients throughout Westchester County, Greenwich, and surrounding areas of New York and Connecticut.
